Finding a Teaching Job in Spain

The first step to getting a teaching job in Spain is to get qualified. If you haven’t already got a CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL teaching qualification, you should contact one of these teacher training centres about getting qualified first. If you already have a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL qualification, your chances of finding a job are significantly increased.

When to Apply

The Spanish academic year runs from September to June so most vacancies are advertised between April and September. However, vacancies do arise at other times of the year so it’s never too early to start your search.

Jobs Boards

Jobs boards are among the most popular choices among both newly-qualified and veteran teachers. By far the biggest and best-known jobs board for English teaching posts is tefl.com. You can search for posts country by country and there are always plenty of vacancies in Spain throughout the year. ESL Base is also worth checking out for vacancies worldwide. If you are only interested in vacancies at private language schools in Spain, go to the Spainwise Jobs Board which advertises vacancies in Spain throughout the year. 

Facebook Groups

Many employers advertise part-time or unexpected vacancies in any of the more than 100 Facebook groups for teachers of English in Spain. If you have a Facebook account, login and type search terms into the search bar to find groups in the regions that interest you..  

Job Fairs

If you would prefer to meet your future employer in person, you might consider attending the national TEFL Job Fairs in held in Cordoba (in the south) and Bilbao (in the north) in May.

At the fairs, you can meet language school owners face to face and find out everything you need to know about the teaching opportunities they have to offer. Employers’ representatives from private language schools in many different regions of Spain conduct on-the-spot interviews all day. Also at these events, employers’ organizations, examining boards and TEFL trainers are on hand to answer any queries you might have about life and work in Spain.

Trinity CertTESOL Course Providers

If you have prepared the Trinity CertTESOL with one of the course providers in Spain, your course provider can give you up-to-date information on vacancies they know of.
